The kind of housing that Davis needs can be described like this:

  • It is affordable for students and local workforce, of whom 23,000 are commuting into town every day
    Teachers | Students | University Staff | Young Families with kids
    Local service sector workers | Young Tech Workers

  • It is connected to where these people work via a robust public transit system
    AKA we stop planning for cars

  • It has mixed use-zoning
    Local shops and services within walking distance for the local neighborhood

  • The housing is energy efficient
    Multifamily homes consume half the energy and half the water of single family homes

  • The housing is net positive financially for the city.
    Single family homes lose money for the city in the long term

There is only one concept yet proposed that ticks all these boxes,
yet it isn’t being considered in the EIR.
